Snow Creek Fire Update

Size:  1,119 acres    
Percent Contained:  75%
Resources:  1 helicopter, 1 water tender, 2 engines, 1 Type 1 hand crew, 1 Type 2 hand crew
Total Personnel:  57

The 1,119-acre Snow Creek Fire in the Goshute Canyon Wilderness, 60 miles north of Ely, Nev., is 75-percent contained.  Full containment is expected by Saturday evening, Aug. 17. 

The fire today is exhibiting interior torching and small runs in islands of unburned vegetation.   Firefighters are mopping up the hotspots as they rehabilitate fire line.  The fire has been burning in steep and rugged terrain, consuming mixed conifers and mountain mahogany since it was first reported Aug. 8. 

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is being assisted by the Forest Service, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and local private contractors.
