Wild Horse Program

Wild horses are pictured shortly after release back to a Herd Management Area.  The mares have been treated with the fertility-vaccine PZP and sex ratios have been adjusted to 60 percent male/40 percent female.The Ely District manages for 810-1,695 wild horses in six Herd Management Areas (HMAs), in accordance with the Ely Resource Management Plan (RMP).  The District signed the Record of Decision for the Ely RMP in August 2008.  The HMAs, which vary in size from 19,000 acres to 1,225,000 acres, are the Antelope, Diamond Hills South, Eagle, Pancake, Silver King and Triple B HMAs.
