California Coastal Monument

Recreation Information

There is only one area where the California Coastal Monument comes onshore and that is at the Point Arena-Stornetta unit. All other recreation opportunities are on state lands or through our gateway communities.

Fishing is only allowed in certain areas. Please check the gateway communities page to learn more about where it is allowed. A fishing license is required.

Sierra and Rio - Look at all those seabirds nesting on the offshore rocks and islands. Let’s stay back and not disturb them, the ocean protects them from animals and people so they can raise their families in peace. Seabird Protection Network and the California Coastal National Monument shares, "Keep Seabirds Safe: Stay away from cliffs and rocks, Always leash your pet, Feed yourself - not wildlife, Enjoy seabirds from afar" and Leave No Trace Principle Number 6: Respect Wildlife
