Expires:  09/30/2012
To:                  Leadership Advisory Team
From:              State Director
Subject:           Montana State Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (MTNWTF) Summer 2011, Request for Proposals                                                     DD: 05/26/2011
Program Area: Wildlife
Purpose:  The purpose of this Instruction Memorandum (IM) is to solicit project proposals to be considered for funding from the MTNWTF.
Background: The MTNWTF has announced their summer request for proposals to be considered at their Summer Board of Director’s meeting in Havre, Montana (Attachment 1). This request for proposals applies to all habitat-related projects, which would include land acquisitions, conservation easements, or access projects.  The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is the leader in upland wildlife habitat conservation in North America.
The NWTF is a nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving the wild turkey and preserving our hunting heritage.  Through dynamic partnerships with state, federal, and provincial wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations throughout North America, spending more than $331 million to conserve nearly 16 million acres of habitat.  Wild turkeys and hundreds of other species of upland wildlife including quail, deer, grouse, pheasants, and songbirds, benefit from this improved habitat.
Policy/Action: Provide project proposals to the Montana/Dakotas State Office for submission to the MTNWTF.  Project proposals must be completed on the MTNWTF official proposal forms (Attachment 2).  Projects should be submitted through Field Managers to John Carlson, Montana Wildlife Program Lead.
Timeframe: Project proposals are due to John Carlson by close of business May 26, 2011.
Budget Impact: No impact.
Manual/Handbook Sections Affected: None
Coordination: This IM was coordinated by the Branch of Planning and Biological Resources (MT923).
Contacts: If you have questions or need further guidance, please contact John Carlson, Wildlife Biologist, at (406) 896-5024 or Dale Tribby, Wildlife Biologist at (406) 233-2812.
