Fire Media Information and Guide

The mission of the Billings Interagency Dispatch Center (BDC) is to provide initial attack and extended attack dispatch services through the cost-effective dispatching, timely coordination and support of all incidents, as well as prescribed fire and non-fire incidents in a seven-county area which includes Big Horn, Carbon, Musselshell, Stillwater, Sweet Grass, Treasure, and Yellowstone Counties.

As the name implies, BDC is an Interagency Dispatch Center servicing the following Agencies:  Rocky Mountain Area, Crow Agency and Fort Peck Agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA); the Billings and Montana/Dakotas Offices of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM); the Southern Lands Office of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC); and the Supervisor's Office and Beartooth District of the Custer National Forest.  In addition, BDC coordinates and dispatches the two Eastern Montana Type II Incident Management Teams (IMTs).

The BDC is located behind the Billings Logan International Airport; it is within walking distance of the Billings Airtanker Base, Billings Fire Cache, DNRC Southern Lands Office, and Billings BLM Fire Operations.

The BDC is unique in that it borders every dispatch zone east of the Continental Divide in Montana.  This allows resources to be dispatched from anywhere east of the Divide during times of high to extreme fire danger.
