BLM Billings Field Office to Temporarily Close 17-Mile Recreation Area on July 17

Billings, MT – The Billings Field Office will close the 17-Mile Recreation Area from 12 a.m. – 4 p.m. on July 17 to complete maintenance on the popular site. BLM crews will repair fences and gates, remove vegetation and conduct fire mitigation activities related to shooting. The shooting lanes and surrounding areas will also be graded as necessary.

“We realize how popular the 17-Mile Recreation Area is and we want to minimize the impact to public, but there is work that needs to be completed out there to keep the area functioning and ensure a good visitor experience,” said BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Tim Finger. “We want to accomplish our work in a safe and efficient manner and the temporary closure will allow us to do that.”
