BLM Opens New Boat Launch at Judith Landing

The new boat launch on the Upper Missouri River at Judith Landing (north of Winifred, Montana, where the PN Bridge crosses the Missouri River) is finished and open for public use.

The old launch had been in poor condition for several years, with a large drop off at its end which created a safety hazard for users and the potential to damage boats and trailers while launching or taking out.

The new BLM boat launch is constructed of pre-cast concrete sections and the contractor finished placing the last of the sections and dressing up the worksite this past weekend.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience while the launch was closed for construction work and hope recreationists enjoy the new launch. We’ve heard the fishing has been great lately,” offered Darren Knuteson, the BLM’s supervisory civil engineer in Lewistown.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on public lands.
