The BLM Back Country Byway located on the Fort Meade Recreation Area is closed due to road construction.

The section of road affected is located between I-90 exit 34 at the Black Hills Chapel and Highway 34 adjacent to the Veteran’s Administration building complex. The closure will be in effect Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until the work in completed. The Alkali Creek campground, trailhead and horse camp will remain open as usual and the remainder of the road will be open to traffic on weekends, evenings and during the rally.

The work is being performed to stabilize a large slump, widen some of the narrow curves and re-establish the gravel road surface.
