Wanna Be Friends?

The Southeastern States Field Office would like to introduce BLM’s newest FaceBook page launched for the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area (ONA). The site can be found at:

“This new site will allow us post up-to-date information, share photos and stories about the ONA and increase awareness of National Conservation Lands and the BLM in general. As our “friends” grow the page will provide an outlet for immediate interaction with the public” said Peter De Witt, Jupiter Inlet ONA manager.

So, if you are interested in learning about BLM’s only NCLS unit in the Eastern United States, “like” our page and you will have the opportunity to learn about everything from local wildlife and plants, to notes about the important history and cultural resources associated with the site. Which could be pretty interesting, in light of the fact, that we have evidence of human habitation dating back thousands of years on site.

“The unique east coast location of BLM-administered public lands at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA provides the BLM an opportunity to introduce itself to an east coast population who may be largely unaware of whom the BLM is, and what function they serve – a Facebook page is one of many tools to facilitate this introduction. On that note, readers should also check out the updated official internet page for the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA” concluded De Witt.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on public lands.
