Project Description:
The BLM proposes to approve the casual use of public lands by the Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG) and the Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for the installation of telemetry equipment at recreation sites managed by the Cottonwood Field Office. The action is needed to monitor the migration and survival of juvenile Snake River Sockeye Salmon between the Upper Salmon River basin and Lower Granite Dam. As part of the endangered fish recovery program, the study is designed to determine where and when mortality occurs using PIT tags and radio telemetry, and includes a 30MHz antenna and equipment stand containing two batteries and receiver. The antenna is mounted on a 20-ft pole, and it and an equipment stand is staked into the ground. The study could last up to 3 years. Each study year, the sites would be installed in March and removed in September.
