Project Description:
Nevada Department of Wildlife plans to augment the California bighorn sheep population in the Santa Rosa Range with 20-25 animals on or around January 2013 as a continuing effort to ensure adequate numbers exist for a thriving population. These sheep are being acquired through capture efforts outside of the BLM’s Winnemucca District and would be transported to the release site via pickup truck and trailer. The sheep would be released from the trailer off of the existing two track roads at the mouth of Peterman Canyon. The sheep would be released on BLM lands, however there are United States Forest Service lands in the higher elevations of the canyon. The animals would be hauled by trailer to an appropriate location in Peterman Canyon for the release.
