Project Description:
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Carson City District, Stillwater Field Office, has issued the Decision Record (DR) for the final environmental assessment (EA) for the Tungsten Mountain Geothermal Exploration Project, DOI-BLM-C010-2011-0029-EA proposed by Ormat Technologies Inc. The EA analyzed potential impacts on the natural and human environment that could result from implementation of the geothermal exploration and testing project on public lands. The primary objective of the project is to further evaluate the characteristics of the geothermal resources in the Tungsten Mountain Project area. The proposed activities include: • Constructing 27 exploration well drill pads; • Construct and maintaining a 5-acre mineral material pit on lease; • Constructing, improving or maintaining access roads (both on lease and off lease); • Drilling and completing an exploration well to a depth of about 7,000 feet from each of the constructed drill pads; • Flow testing exploration wells to obtain samples of geothermal fluids and to collect aquifer information from the geothermal reservoir; and • Drilling temporary water wells at one or more proposed drill sites. The EA was made available for a 30-day public review/comment period. The BLM received comments from one private citizen, State departments and two Federal agencies. All comments received were reviewed, considered and responded to by the BLM Carson City District Office (CCDO). Additional analysis, environmental data and explanations have been included in the Final EA in response to public review and comments received.
