Juniper and Pinyon Loop Trails Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Sierra Front Field Office, has completed the Juniper and Pinyon Loop Trails Project Final Environmental Assessment (DOI-BLM-NV-C020-2012-0028-EA).  The final environmental assessment (EA) anaylzes the direct, indirect and cumulative effects from the construction and maintenance of two, 6-mile non-motorized trails and one new trailhead.  The Project area is along the westside of the Pine Nut Mountains, in Douglas County, Nevada (see Maps).

The Project was submitted to the BLM by the Carson Valley Trails Association.  The Project consists of the following:

Construction and maintenance of the Juniper Loop Trail.  Access to the trail would be from the existing staging area 1/2 mile east of Stephanie Way.

Construction and maintenance of the Pinyon Loop Trail.  Access to the trail would be from a new trailhead constructed on Pine Nut Road.

To ensure safe use of the trailheads, the BLM under a separate action would prohibit targetshooting from and into the trailheads, designate the two loop trails as non-motorized, and prohibit off-highway vehicle staging from the trailheads.

On October 21, 2013 the BLM issued the decision for this Project to authorize the construction and maintenance of the two loop trails (see Documents)..
