BLM will initiate coordinated, inter-governmental, interagency, Right-of-Way corridor planning efforts (including coordination with BLM land use planning for public lands efforts) in partnership with industry and public interest groups.

The BLM and Forest Service, in cooperation with the utility industry, are addressing land use planning issues related to the identification and designation of utility corridors to increase efficiency and reliability of transporting energy. The Western Utility Group’s (WUG) Western Regional Corridor Study is currently being updated to identify proposed corridors by priority that is tied to future energy related transmission needs. Supplemental BLM land use planning guidance on Right-Of –Way utility corridors was issued by Instructional Memorandum (IM) 2002-196, “Right-of-Way (ROW) Management-Land Use Planning,” dated June 25, 2002. http://www.blm.gov/nhp/efoia/wo/fy02/im2002-196
