Location: The Platte River Contiguous WSA is located in Jackson County, approximately 18 miles north of Walden. Click here for a map.
Flora & Fauna: Vegetation consists mainly of pinyon-juniper, sagebrush and grasses. There is also a small stand of fir on the southeast edge of the WSA. This WSA is in the Rocky Mountain Forest Province. Fauna includes raptors, deer, elk, various other big game, and sage-grouse.
Recreation: Activities include hiking, backpacking, camping and photography. More recreation is available within the Platte River Wilderness Area, including whitewater rafting, fishing and climbing. Please note that though unconfined recreation is encouraged in WSAs, specific types of recreation may be barred from a specific area to prevent degradation of natural conditions.
