Castle Peak

Castle Peak WSA

Castle Peak itself is a prominent, basalt formation with steep, rugged slopes. This WSA also contains several other peaks that all stand around 10,000 feet in elevation. From the main peak, topography varies from gently rolling hills to basins and meadows.

Many springs, small lakes, and perennial steams are found in the area; some provide aquatic habitat and support trout. The headwaters of several perennial creeks are found here, as well: Milk Creek, Alkali Creek, Big Alkali Creek, Catamount Creek, Norman Creek and Castle Creek. The Leonard Horn Ditch diverts water from Milk Creek.

Four outstanding geologic formations of sedimentary and volcanic origins from Cretaceous to Pleistocene time are also exposed in the area.
