Southwest Resource Advisory Council to Meet (01-17-14)

MONTROSE, Colo.—The Bureau of Land Management’s Southwest Resource Advisory Council will meet Friday, Feb. 7 at the Montrose Public Lands Center (2465 S. Townsend Ave.).
The meeting begins at 9 a.m., is open to the public and the public comment period is at 11:30 a.m.  Individuals who want to make a statement during the public comment period should register with the BLM by sending an email to by Wednesday, Feb. 5. Speakers should submit a written copy of their statement at the meeting for the administrative record. Depending on the number of speakers, the RAC may limit the length of presentations.

·         National Environmental Policy Act training
·         Land Tenure
·         Oil & Gas Sub-group update
The Southwest RAC is one of three advisory councils to BLM Colorado. Composed of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, individuals serving in each RAC represent a broad range of public land interests, ranging from environmental to local government to commercial activity. The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of America’s public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2015, the BLM generated $4.1 billion in receipts from activities occurring on public lands.
