A physical fitness park dedicated to the memory of U.S. Forest Service fallen smokejumper Luke Sheehy will be officially opened to the public in a ceremony set for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, at the Bureau of Land Management Swasey Recreation Area, west of Redding.
Fire crews from the Bureau of Land Management will be burning piles of cut juniper trees within an 800-acre project area south of Alturas beginning Tuesday, March 21, and continuing through Thursday, March 23.

A section of the Elk River Trail in the Headwaters Forest Reserve, near Eureka, is temporarily closed due to muddy conditions. The access restriction begins about three miles from the trailhead parking area.
Several sections of the Bizz Johnson National Recreation Trail west of Susanville were damaged by heavy winter storms, and the Bureau of Land Management is advising visitors to use caution in the affected areas.
