Little Sahara Recreation Area Moves to Phase II May 21, 2020
The Little Sahara Recreation Area will move to Phase II on Thursday, May 21, to align with Governor Gary R. Herbert’s Utah Leads Together 2.0 Plan Low Risk Phase and the Central Utah Public Health Department’s new public health order. Phase II reduces the Phase I social distancing and dispersed camping restrictions that the BLM implemented when the recreation area moved into the Phase I reopening. Phase II restrictions can be viewed here: PHASE II RESTRICTIONS.
Other changes during Phase II include the reopening of the pay booth for visitors paying the use fee. Annual pass holders will be directed to a fast lane to expedite access into the recreation area. Day use parking will be available at the south end of the EMS and law enforcement parking lot located along the access road to Sand Mountain.
The BLM’s number one priority is to protect the health and safety of staff and visitors to our recreation areas and facilities. We are hoping that the public will partner with us and follow the restrictions set in place to provide the opportunity for all visitors to have a safe and enjoyable visit to Little Sahara. The reopening is phased: Phase I included restrictions to protect public and employee health and safety. The BLM will reduce restrictions and expand access during Phase II and during Phase III, the BLM will return the recreation area to normal operations.
The public restrooms, dump stations, and water fill stations will be open and cleaned as needed. The visitor center will remain closed while the Little Sahara Recreation Area reopens to help prevent community spread. While all campgrounds will be open, the public is advised to be prepared to disperse camp in other areas within Little Sahara and in the surrounding areas.
