Cody Field Office Partners with Local Groups to Improve Wildlife Habitat

Not even a hailstorm could deter a determined group of volunteers during a recent workday in the BLM-managed McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area. Staff from the Cody Field Office joined volunteers from Friends of a Legacy (FOAL), Wyoming Wildlife Federation, Cody High School Outdoor Club, and Shoshone Back Country Horsemen to construct a buck and rail fence watering site enclosure.

A tank inside the enclosure will provide water for birds, including sage-grouse, and small mammals. A stock tank outside the enclosure will be used by wild horses, livestock, and other wildlife. The water well at the site had been previously drilled during a joint BLM-FOAL project. BLM has partnered with FOAL since the group was formed in 2005 to enhance habitat for the benefit of wild horses and all creatures found within the McCullough Peaks Herd Management Area.
