Abstract:
ACEC - Areas of Critical Environmental Concern
ACEC designations highlight areas where special management
attention is
needed to protect, and prevent irreparable damage to ,
important historic,
cultural, and scenic values, fish, or wildlife resources or
other natural
systems or processes; or to protect human life and safety
from natural hazards.
Purpose:
An ACEC is an area where BLM has recognized that there are
relevant and important
values and has established special management measures to
protect those values.
In the case of Pinedale, the two ACECs were established for
the Colorado River Cutthroat trout.
Fish and wildlife resources are the basis for the designation.
