The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Casper Field Office administrative area is located in east-central Wyoming and includes approximately 8.5 million acres of land in most of Natrona County and all of Converse, Platte, and Goshen counties. This Record of Decision (ROD) approves the Casper Resource Management Plan (RMP). The ROD and RMP provides overall direction for managment of all resources on BLM-administered land in the Casper Field Office planning area.
This data was created for the December 7th, 2007, Record of Decision and Approved Casper Resource Management Plan (ROD/ARMP). The purpose of this dataset is to show areas in the Casper Field Office subject to a Timing Limited Stipulation (TLS) restriction. The dataset was created using multiple datasets (many layers) from the GIS project files. As new information is received, this dataset is updated. This dataset is as of December 7, 2007.
This plan provides direction for managing BLM-administered public lands in Natrona, Converse, Platte, and Goshen counties.
The Decisions Numbers, Area Name, Restriction and Type are included in the attribute tables.

RAPTOR NESTS - Description:
Abstract:
This data set reflects the Raptor nesting sites between
1970 to 1998 that were entered in excel files. This data is
reflected as point data for these nesting sites.
Purpose:
The purpose of having this data is for the inventory of
Raptor Nests in the Casper Field Office in Wyoming. This
data is also used in resource management planning for the
Casper Field Office. Half mile buffer around each nest.
RAPTOR NESTS - Description:
Abstract:
This data set is for Raptor Nests for the Bureau of Land
Management, Platte River, Buffalo, Newcastle and Thunder
Basin National Grassland Field Office Areas. This data
reflects Raptor nesting sites between 1996 to 2002. This
data set was preparedfrom GPS-Air data by WFG.
Purpose:
The Raptor Nest data is used to give nesting sites for the
Casper Field Office between 1996 through 2002. Raptor nests
surveys for the Bureau of Land Management for the field
offices of Platte River, Buffalo, and Newcastle were
prepared by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. The
purpose of this study was to provide trend data on Raptors.
Please note that a Raptor Nest Survey was prepared by the
Wyoming Game & Fish Department in Lander December 10, 1999.
This data will be used for the resource management planning process.
Half mile buffer around each nest.
This RAPTOR NESTS Inventory is in UTM projection Zone 13 and is in NAD83.
The coordinate values were collected in UTM coordinates and entered into an access database. No tests wer done for accuracy and the data might vary from the paper source if screen digitized.
GREATER SAGE-GROUSE NESTING - <purpose>To delinate the actual location ofthe lek, not just a point. These perimeters are ever evolving. The perimeters are just the ones that have been collected to date and in no way represent all the lek perimeters. Perimeters in this file may be updated at any time.

SHARPTAIL GROUSE NESTING AREA - Point data shows leks courtship/breeding grounds for sage grouse within Casper Field Office.
Used to protect sage grouse courtship/breeding habitats. Buffers are 0.25 to 2 Mile around each lek.
Projection is UTM NAD93 Zone 13.
RAPTOR ARTIFICIAL NESTING SITES (ANS)
Raptor Artificial Nesting Sites for the Casper Field Office. These sites were ground truthed and a GPS coordinate was taken for each Artificial Nesting Site. A Garmain GPS unit was used. The Casper Field Office Wildlife Biologist is the data steward for this GIS data. Half Mile Buffer is used for each site.
CRUCIAL WINTER RANGE - BIG HORN SHEEP, ANTELOPE, ELK, MULE DEER - Metadata regarding big game seasonal range coverages:
I. User-defined attributes:
1. Species: ant = antelope
bhs = bighorn sheep
elk = elk
mdr = mule deer
moo = moose
rmg = rocky mountain goat
wtd = white-tailed deer
CRU = Crucial. These areas can describe any particular seasonal range or habitat component (often winter or winter/yearlong range), but describes that component which has been documented as the determining factor in a population's ability to maintain itself at a certain level (theoretically at or above the population objective) over the long term.
WIN = Winter. A population or portion of a population of animals use the documented suitable habitat within this range annually, in substantial numbers only during the winter (variable, but commonly between 12/1 and 4/30
II. Accuracy:
Seasonal ranges were originally drafted by hand onto mylar overlays at a scale of "1 inch = 1 mile". They were digitized by overlaying these mylars on BLM 1:100,000 scale maps. While an imperfect match of two scales, we did this for two reasons: 1) Time constraints (as it turned out, it still took us over 5 years to complete this automation project), and 2) with regards to big game boundaries, such lines should be viewed 'very thickly' anyway. The mylars were "best fit" over the BLM map to equalize the distortion over the entire map. When a river or road was known to serve as a boundary, it was digitized directly from the BLM map. Otherwise, the lines on the mylar were digitized.

This data sets reflects the Decisions in the Casper Field Office Resouce Management Plan. The Decisions Numbers, Area Name, Restriction and Type are in the attribute table.
