Cheatgrass
| Cheatgrass is an annual grass that establishes on disturbed sites, is a prolific seed producer, and cures out early in the summer creating sharp-pointed seeds that can harm the mouths of grazing animals. Cheatgrass is a problem because the dry grass then creates a fire danger. After a wildfire, cheatgrass spreads very quickly and wildfires begin to occur more often. Native grasses and shrubs cannot compete within frequent fire intervals resulting in a loss of native rangelands. | | |
