Map Ordering

The designated trail is located entirely on legally-accessible land (BLM and State of Wyoming lands) along the 200+ miles of the trail between the Medicine Bow/Routt and Shoshone National Forests, some private lands lie in close proximity. Trail users are cautioned to be aware of the location of private lands and the need to secure permission for access to private lands before entering them. In addition, no overnight camping or open fires are allowed on State of Wyoming lands. Camping on BLM-administered public lands along the trail is a primitive setting.

You may purchase 1:100,000-scale maps to assist in your identification of BLM-administered public lands, State of Wyoming lands, and private lands. The maps which provide coverage of the trail between the national forests are: Baggs, Rawlins, Bairoil, and South Pass. In the  Wind River Range north of State Highway 28, the trail enters BLM-administered public land before entering the Shoshone and Bridger-Teton National Forests. The Pinedale map provides coverage of this 10-mile segment. These BLM surface management maps cost $4 each and may be purchased at any BLM office in Wyoming. To order them by phone using your Visa or Mastercard, call the Rawlins Field Office at 307-328-4200 or the Lander Field Office at 307-332-8400.

CDNST Maps

Ten color maps (1:100,000 scale) depict the CDT route, potential water sources, and property ownership. Coverage extends from the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest, south of Rawlins, to Wyoming State Highway 28, west of South Pass City. These maps are not intended to replace the BLM Surface Management Maps (1:100,000 scale) used to navigate the trail, however, they are a good source of information for trip planning purposes.
