Economics and Accomplishments
In 2010 over 5 million dollars of direct economic benefits to the people of Wyoming were derived from Wyoming BLM forest product sales. The return ratio for economic benefits of commercial BLM forestry activities to funding levels is approximately 10:1
This does not include the sale of personal and commercial firewood (5,000 green tons of biomass) that was utilized as renewable energy for heating purposes. These fuelwood/biomass sales benefited the residents of Wyoming through lowered utility bills and the opportunities afforded to families going to the forests to cut firewood as part of their outdoor recreational activities.- The BLM Wyoming forestry program helps to support the local economies of small Wyoming towns such as Aladdin, Hulett, Daniel, Beulah, Basin, Buffalo and Bridger, through pre-commercial and commercial thinning contracts.
- Forest Products harvested from BLM lands provides lumber, fuel, and a multitude of specialty forest products (wood for furniture, burl wood for decorative purposes, boughs and cones for floral displays, willow for basketry, native seed for land restoration, and many other niche products) for both large and small businesses and a livelihood for their employees.
