In February, 2002, BLM published a "Notice of Intent" to revise the Great Divide Resource Management Plan (RMP) and rename it as the Rawlins RMP. The approved Rawlins RMP and Record of Decision (ROD) was signed in December, 2008.

The RMP provides direction for the management of 3.5 million acres of BLM-administered public land and 4.5 million acres of BLM-administered federal mineral estate in Albany, Carbon, Laramie, and Sweetwater counties in southwestern Wyoming.

The RMP establishes guidance, objectives, policies and management actions for public lands administered by the Rawlins Field Office. The plan is comprehensive and resolves or addresses a wide variety of issues, including but not limited to:

• Development of Energy Resources & Minerals Related Issues
• Special Management Designations
• Resource Accessibility
• Wildland/Urban Interface
• Special Status Species Management
• Air & Water Quality
• Vegetation Management
• Recreation, Cultural Resources, & Paleontological Resources Management
• Other Issues

As part of the planning process, a supporting environmental impact statement (EIS) was prepared. Both the RMP and EIS were developed concurrently with a full range of public participation.
