Project Completion Date: June 2010

Project Summary:
The Red Canyon Prescribed Burn project area is located in Sublette county, 18 miles west of Daniel, Wyoming and 30 miles west of the town of Pinedale, Wyoming. The project area is 2743 acres in the Red Canyon drainage, on the east side of Bald Mountain on BLM and Wyoming State Lands. Of the 2743 acres within the project area 877 acres of Conifer encroached Aspen stands will be targeted for burning. These 877 acres have been mechanically treated. Mechanical treatment included logging of trees greater than 9 inches DBH in two of the units followed by cutting and slashing of the remaining conifer trees that were less than 9 inches DBH. Only two of the units in this project area were logged the rest were slashed without logging. The cut slash material was lopped and scattered throughout the aspen stands in order to create a continuous fuel bed.

Objectives of this burn include; Reduce the hazardous fuels within treated aspen stands, stimulate aspen regeneration and decrease the density of late serial sagebrush.
