An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a framework to systematically identify and reduce impacts on the environment.

The BLM is committed to implementing an EMS to:

  • Continually improve operating procedures
  • Integrate environmental considerations into all operations
  • Comply with legal and other requirements
  • Prevent pollution
  • Carry out a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing, and improving processes and actions
to meet organizational and environmental goals

The BLM Wyoming EMS provides a mechanism for evaluating and pursuing environmental management
improvements across all areas and programs overseen by the BLM Wyoming.

Why Do EMS:

On October 5, 2009, President Barack Obama signed Executive Order (EO) 13514, “Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy, and Economic Performance” “. . . to establish an integrated strategy towards sustainability in the Federal Government and to make reduction of greenhouse gas emissions a priority for Federal agencies . . .”
