BLM recognized for Sponsorship of 2009 Platter River Revival CelebrationBy Lesley Collins, Public Affairs Specialist, High Plains District
On September 19, 2009, the Casper Field Office celebrated National Public Lands Day (NPLD) by joining forces with the community of Casper in a long term effort to clean up the river. The Platte River Revival is a multi-year, multi phase project. The project consist of debris cleanup and removal, noxious weeds treatment, and native species restoration. The committee hopes to stabilize the river bank and improve aesthetics. This project will take several years to complete but will result in a more beautiful and healthy river system, benefitting generations to come. Since 2007, over 1,300 volunteers have helped beautify the North Platte River by removing debris and planting 148 trees. The BLM is proud to sponsor the Platte River Revival as this year’s NPLD event. This project will build partnerships between the public and private sectors and benefit the entire watershed. It reinforces the importance of cooperative stewardship and improves outdoor recreation opportunities. |
