U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIORBUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT
Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA – Saturday, April 17, 2010
By Allison Barnes, Outdoor Recreation Specialist, Buffalo Field Office
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Buffalo Field Office and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Powder River Ranger District teamed up to bring messages of Leave No Trace and Tread Lightly! to Johnson County youth.
The YMCA, host of the annual Healthy Kids Day event, estimates that more than 300 attendees participated in various programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. The BLM and Forest Service brought videos, public land information and maps in addition to “prizes” related to outdoor ethics. Those who visited the booth were asked to tell a story about a time they practiced a “Leave No Trace” principle in the outdoors.
