BLM Rawlins Seeks Public Comment on RMP Water Amendment
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rawlins Field Office is seeking public comment on a proposed amendment to the 2008 Rawlins Resource Management Plan (RMP) to close approximately 12,425 acres in Carbon and Albany counties to oil and gas leasing.
Parcels of BLM-administered land approximately 27 miles south of Rawlins, Wyo. were nominated for leasing in May 2012; however, because of community concern and close proximity to 25 springs which supply Rawlins’ drinking water, the parcels were deferred. At the request of Rawlins city managers, this RMP amendment is proposed to permanently close the parcels to leasing and avoid potential impacts to the springs from energy and mineral activity. Areas adjacent to the cities of Saratoga, Wyo. and Laramie, Wyo. will also be considered for closure to oil and gas leasing due to water quality concerns.
Additional information is available at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/programs/Planning/rmps/rawlins.html
An environmental assessment will be prepared for this RMP amendment. Public participation is a key component of this process and will help identify issues, concerns, ideas or mitigation opportunities to ensure the best possible analysis. Written comments will be accepted until Aug. 20 and may be emailed to email@example.com; faxed to 307-328-4224; or mailed or delivered to the BLM Rawlins Field Office, P.O. Box 2407, 1300 N. Third St., Rawlins WY 82301.

The BLM's mission is to manage and conserve the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations under our mandate of multiple-use and sustained yield. In Fiscal Year 2013, the BLM generated $4.7 billion in receipts from public lands.
