BLM High Plains District Plans Prescribed Fires

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Plains District plans to burn slash piles this winter, contingent upon fuel moisture and weather conditions. The prescribed burning will dispose of slash from forest health and fuels reduction treatments. Project areas include:

  • Billy Creek:  Slash piles created during hazardous fuels mitigation in the Billy Creek area, southwest of Buffalo in Johnson County. Prescribed burning is scheduled to begin Jan. 15 - 24 if weather conditions allow.
  • Mosier Gulch:  Slash piles created during hazardous fuels mitigation in the Mosier Gulch area, west of Buffalo in Johnson County. Prescribed burning is scheduled to begin late January or early February if weather conditions allow.
  • Mallo Camp:  Slash piles created during timber thinning in the Mallo Camp area northeast of Newcastle in Weston County. Prescribed burning is scheduled to begin Jan. 13 or 14 if weather conditions allow.

All prescribed burn projects are conducted in accordance with approved burn plans which specify weather, smoke dispersal, and fuel moisture conditions. For more information, please contact Jodi Stone at (307) 261-7631 or Jennifer Walker at (307) 684-1164.
