BLM Casper Releases EA for Samson Scott Field Development Project

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Casper Field Office announces the availability of an Environmental Assessment (EA) on a proposed oil and gas development program in the existing Scott Field.

Samson Resources Company (SRC) is proposing to explore and potentially develop oil and natural gas resources in an area of approximately 44,619 acres in Converse County, 20 miles north of the town of Douglas, Wyo. The proposal includes the drilling of about 150 new oil and gas wells using horizontal and vertical drilling techniques. The proposed drilling will occur on 40 new well pads with two to six wells to be drilled from each pad.

The target zones for the proposal include the Dakota, Frontier, Mowry, Muddy, Niobrara, Shannon, and Sussex formations. The proposal would also include, but are not limited to, the installation of the equipment to facilitate mineral production should wells be commercially productive.

The EA has been prepared to analyze the impacts of the proposed project.  The EA is available for public review and comment by visiting the BLM website at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/cfo.html.

The public comment period runs from July 22 through August 20, 2013.  Comments should be addressed to Assistant Field Manager Minerals and Lands, BLM Casper Field Office, 2987 Prospector Drive, Casper, WY, 82609.  Comments may also be emailed to casper_wymail@blm.gov; please include "Samson Scott Field EA" in the subject line.
