The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office, in coordination with the Pinedale Anticline Project Office, will host a Greater Sage-Grouse public meeting on Thursday, March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pinedale Field Office, 1625 W. Pine St. in Pinedale, Wyo. This meeting is a follow-up to the Feb. 20 Wildlife Annual Planning Meeting (APM) and is prompted by the drop in the number of active sage-grouse leks in the Duke’s Triangle Complex on the Mesa, a Wildlife Monitoring and Mitigation Matrix trigger. Monitoring data and maps will be presented and public comments sought regarding appropriate mitigation planning and implementation. The 2012 Greater Sage-Grouse Monitoring Annual Report for the Pinedale Anticline Project Area (PAPA) is available online at www.wy.blm.gov/jio-papo/papo/index.htm. As directed in the 2008 PAPA Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement Record of Decision, a general APM is scheduled each year encompassing a wide range of PAPA topics. A separate Wildlife APM was established to coincide more closely with the availability of wildlife data and to allow for a deeper and more efficient discussion of wildlife issues. Additional follow-up meetings are scheduled as needed. Please contact Eric Decker at 307-367-5386 for more information. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
