BLM Seeks Public Comment on Weston Hills Travel and Transportation Management Plan |

|
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Buffalo Field Office is seeking public comments on the Weston Hills Travel and Transportation Management Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA). The EA analyzes the environmental impacts of implementing recreation and travel management decisions on approximately 9,500 acres of BLM-administered surface at the Weston Hills management area in northern Campbell County, Wyo. near the city of Gillette. The alternatives would affect existing off-highway vehicle (OHV) designations and recreation management decisions on public lands within Weston Hills. The BLM will decide which existing routes at Weston Hills to designate for public recreational use, whether or not to provide additional associated infrastructure for recreational users, and if so, under what terms and conditions. BLM encourages the public to review the EA and submit comments. Comments will be accepted through June 29, 2012. Copies of EA will be available online at: http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/bfo/WestonHillsTTM.html. Written comments and resource information submitted by mail should be sent to the BLM Buffalo Field Office, Attention Allison Barnes, 1425 Fort Street, Buffalo, WY, 82834. Comments may be sent electronically to: BLM_WY_Buffalo_WYMail@blm.gov. For more information contact Allison Barnes at (307) 684-1100. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
