|
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Cody and Worland field offices will host six public meetings during the 90-day comment period on the Bighorn Basin Draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Public involvement is an essential and required part of the RMP revision process. The meetings will provide an opportunity for interested individuals to ask questions, provide input on the draft plan, and help ensure that the BLM is providing a well-balanced plan for the management of public lands in the Bighorn Basin. The BLM-hosted public meetings will be held in Thermopolis, Worland, Greybull, Lovell, Cody and Powell.
Comments on the draft plan will be accepted through July 20, 2011, and will be considered before the BLM issues the proposed RMP and final EIS. Commenters may use an interactive website to easily review the draft plan and provide comments. The interactive website can be accessed at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/programs/Planning/rmps/bighorn.html. Comments may also be submitted by email to BBRMP_WYMail@blm.gov or by mail to Worland Field Office, Attn: RMP Project Manager, P.O. Box 119, Worland, WY 82401.
A limited number of CDs are also available. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
