BLM Pinedale Field Office Hosts National Riparian Service Team Workshop

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office is working with the National Riparian Service Team (NRST) to host a riparian workshop scheduled for the week of July 18. The workshop will bring a diverse group of people together to build a common understanding of riparian resources and to learn about the BLM’s riparian management efforts through an examination of the North LaBarge area.

In preparation for the July workshop, the NRST will be in Pinedale, Wyo. beginning April 5 to meet with a variety of stakeholders and potential participants to gain an understanding of their interests and concerns. These conversations will help the NRST to design a workshop that meets the needs of as many people as possible.

If you are interested in riparian management, please contact Dennis Doncaster, BLM hydrologist, at 307-352-0207 or ddoncast@blm.gov no later than Mon., April 4, to make an appointment to meet with the NRST for 30-45 minutes on April 5, 6 or 7.

The National Riparian Service Team is an interagency, interdisciplinary team of specialists that works throughout the west to encourage and facilitate riparian restoration and management. To learn more about the NRST, go to http://www.blm.gov/or/programs/nrst/index.php.

For more information, please contact Shane DeForest, Pinedale Field Manager, at 307-367-5302 or sdefores@blm.gov.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
