The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Casper Field Office will hold a public meeting on an environmental assessment (EA) for a new trailhead in the Redd’s day use area. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 24 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Casper Field Office, 2987 Prospector Drive. The Blue Gulch Trailhead is proposed for development on a newly acquired parcel along the North Platte River within the Trapper’s Route area. Outdoor Recreation Planner Eve Bennett will also give a presentation on implementing the Trapper’s Route Special Recreation Area Management Plan, which was completed in 2006. The presentation will include a review of recreation projects that have been or are scheduled for completion. Other topics that will be discussed include proposed research projects, habitat improvements, and long-term management objectives. All parties interested in public lands and recreation opportunities along the North Platte River are invited to attend the public meeting. The meeting will initiate the 30-day public comment period on the EA, which is available online at www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/documents/cfo/blue_gulch_trail.html. Written comments on the EA should be addressed to the Bureau of Land Management; Eve Bennett, Outdoor Recreation Planner; 2987 Prospector Drive; Casper, WY 82604. Scoping comments can also be submitted via email to: casper_wymail@blm.gov. Please include "Blue Gulch Trailhead" in the subject line. For additional information or a copy of the EA, contact Eve Bennett at 307-261-7517. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
