BLM Rawlins Issues Wood Permits |

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rawlins Field Office will be issuing small wood product permits (firewood, post/poles, wildlings/ornamentals, burl & character wood) for the Shirley Mountain area northwest of Medicine Bow and south of Casper, Wyo. The permits will be offered June 1 - November 25. There is a three cord minimum of firewood per individual permit and a ten cord maximum. The cost is $5.00 per cord. Post/poles are $1.00 each with a 50 post/pole maximum per permit. Wildlings/ornamentals are $7.50 each with a maximum of five plants per permit. Load tickets issued with the permit are to be filled out and attached to the load of wood before it is removed from the cutting area. A map of the cutting area will be attached to each permit. The Rawlins Field Office also has 1:100,000 scale topographic maps for sale. Permits may be obtained at the Rawlins Field Office located at 1300 N. Third St. between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The permits may also be purchased at the BLM Casper Field Office at 2987 Prospector Drive in Casper, or call 307-261-7600. The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
