An installation ceremony for the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) new field manager for the Newcastle Field Office was held May 12.
Rick received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Michigan Technological University in 1983 and a master’s degree in nuclear engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1993. Miller served 21 years in the United States Air Force, including five years as a geodetic surveyor, prior to joining civil service with US Northern Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command as a program analyst in 2002. He joined BLM in 2006. Miller served as the BLM Wyoming budget officer, guiding budget development and execution across all BLM programs within Wyoming, including assisting in establishing the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative program priorities and funding requirements. Miller has also been supporting development of an implementation plan for Secretary of the Interior Salazar’s Wild Horse and Burro Initiative. "Wyoming is a special place, and BLM is a good organization. I am honored to be the field manager for Newcastle and work with a great team managing public lands in northeastern Wyoming," noted Miller. |

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. In Fiscal Year 2012, activities on public lands generated $4.6 billion in revenue, much of which was shared with the States where the activities occurred. In addition, public lands contributed more than $112 billion to the U.S. economy and helped support more than 500,000 jobs. |
