The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) National Historic Trails Interpretive Center (NHTIC) teamed up with the Casper College World Languages Department this summer to translate the visitor guide into German, French and Spanish. “The Trails Center is an international destination, and we are grateful to the students and faculty of Casper College for providing this important service to our visitors,” said Trails Center Director Mike Abel. The project was part of Casper College’s Learning through Service program, a nation-wide effort that encourages college students to serve their local communities through volunteer work. Three Casper College instructors facilitated the service project: Stephanie Loutas, instructor of French, Ingo Roedig, instructor of German, and Lora Hittle, instructor of Spanish and chair of the Department of World Languages. “My students were able to attain hands-on experience,” Hittle said. “They studied Spanish, and our community benefits from what they learned.” The NHTIC is a public-private partnership between the BLM and the National Historic Trails Center Foundation. The facility is located at 1501 N. Poplar Street, Casper, Wyo. The Center is currently operating on summer hours, and is open daily, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. |

The BLM manages more land - over 245 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands. |
