BLM Signs Rocktober Unit Natural Gas Project Decision Record

The Decision Record for the Rocktober Unit Natural Gas Project has been signed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Cody Field Office. The project is located in the McCullough Peaks area east of Cody, Wyo.

The Environmental Assessment (EA), released for a 30-day review period on May 8, 2009, analyzed seven proposed gas wells and associated facilities on federal land. The analysis determined that no long-term significant impacts would occur as a result of the project. The EA also addressed and mitigated issues raised by the public during the comment and review periods, including impacts to wild horses, wildlife including sage grouse, visual intrusions, and air and water quality.

The Decision Record and EA can be found on the BLM website at http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/info/NEPA/cyfodocs/Rocktober.html. The documents are also available for viewing at the Cody Field Office, 1002 Blackburn Avenue in Cody.

For more information, please contact the Cody Field Office at 307-578-5900.

The BLM manages more land - 256 million acres - than any other Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The Bureau, with a budget of about $1 billion, also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
