Lander BLM Hosts Installation Ceremony: Public invited to meet new Field Manager Jim Cagney

An installation ceremony for Jim Cagney as field manager of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Lander Field Office will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21, at the Lander Field Office. The public is welcome to attend.

Jim has been the Lander Field Manager since mid-May, but BLM Wyoming State Director Don Simpson will make it official by administering the Oath of Office. As field manager, Jim oversees the management of 2.5 million acres of public lands in central Wyoming.

Jim Cagney has a long history in Wyoming. For the past five years, he has served as the Range Program Lead in BLM Wyoming’s State Office in Cheyenne. From 1978-1995 he worked as a Range Conservationist in Rock Springs and a Supervisory Range Conservationist in Worland. Jim has also served the BLM in various capacities in Colorado, Idaho, and Montana.

“I am happy to be working with the outstanding staff in the Lander Field Office. I also look forward to working with public land users in the area to foster a collaborative approach to resource management,” Cagney said.

The Lander Field Office staff encourages the public to come for the ceremony and meet the new field manager. The office is located at 1335 Main Street. For more information, please contact Sarah Beckwith, BLM Public Affairs Specialist, at 307-347-5207.

The BLM manages more than 245 million acres of public land, the most of any Federal agency. This land, known as the National System of Public Lands, is primarily located in 12 Western states, including Alaska. The BLM also administers 700 million acres of sub-surface mineral estate throughout the nation. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2011, recreational and other activities on BLM-managed land contributed more than $130 billion to the U.S. economy and supported more than 600,000 American jobs. The Bureau is also one of a handful of agencies that collects more revenue than it spends. In FY 2012, nearly $5.7 billion will be generated on lands managed by the BLM, which operates on a $1.1 billion budget. The BLM's multiple-use mission is to sustain the health and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The Bureau accomplishes this by managing such activities as outdoor recreation, livestock grazing, mineral development, and energy production, and by conserving natural, historical, cultural, and other resources on public lands.
