BLM Issues Winter Range Closures

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Kemmerer Field Office, in coordination with Wyoming Game and Fish Dept., reminds the public of winter closures, Jan. 1 through April 30, for all motorized vehicle travel in the Raymond Mountain Wilderness Study Area and the Slate Creek, Rock Creek, and Bridger Creek big game winter ranges. These seasonal closures contribute to the protection of wintering wildlife and public safety in the areas.

No motorized travel, in these areas, is allowed without permission by the BLM Kemmerer Field Manager. Highways and county roads are not affected, and recreational use of these areas by non-motorized means is allowed.

The following BLM-administered lands are included in this seasonal closure:

  • Raymond Mountain Wilderness Study Area, located approximately 15 miles north of Cokeville;
  • Slate Creek, all BLM-administered lands south of Fontenelle Creek, west and north of Highway 189, and east of the crest of Slate Creek Ridge;
  • Rock Creek, all BLM-administered lands south of county road 204 (Pine Creek road), west of the crest of Dempsey Ridge, west of Fossil Butte National Monument and north and east of Highway 30; and
  • Bridger Creek, all BLM-administered lands south of Highway 30, west of Fossil Ridge, west of the Bear River Divide, north of Uinta-Lincoln County line, east of Utah-Wyoming border, and southeast of Highway 89.

Wyoming Game and Fish Dept., Dept. of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Lincoln and Uinta County Sheriff’s Offices, and BLM personnel are exempt from closure while performing official duties. Operators of existing oil and gas facilities may perform maintenance and pumping as approved.

For more information, or for maps of the closed areas, call Wally Mierzejewski at 307-828-4508, or the Kemmerer Field Office at 307-828-4500, 312 Highway 189 N., Kemmerer, WY 83101.
