Casper Field Office Plans Prescribed Burn
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning the Cedar Draw Phase II (JY Ranch) prescribed burn in Platte County, Wyoming starting this week.
The Cedar Draw burn area is approximately 20 miles southwest of Wheatland within the Mule Creek grazing allotment. From 500 to 700 acres of true mountain mahogany shrublands will be treated with prescribed fire. The primary goals of this project are to improve forage in big game crucial winter ranges, increase diversity within mountain shrub communities, improve livestock grazing distribution, improve habitat diversity for other wildlife species (small game, upland game birds, etc.), and reduce hazardous fuels to lessen potential wildfire severity.
All prescribed burn projects are conducted in accordance with approved burn plans when favorable weather, smoke, and fuel conditions permit. For more information, please contact Kristi Bulock or George Soehn at 307-261-7600.
