Collins,     307-261-7603 BLM Burns Slash Piles This Winter The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is planning several prescribed burns within Johnson, Campbell, Natrona, Converse, and Weston counties. Burning could begin as soon as December 3, 2007 and continue throughout the winter as conditions permit. Buffalo Field Office (Johnson County): Billy Creek – Hand and machine slash piles located in the Billy Creek area of the southern Bighorn Mountains. The piles were created from thinning and fuel load reduction operations. Powder River Properties – Machine slash piles located near Dull Knife reservoir. The piles were created from fuel load reduction operations. Graves Corral – Machine slash piles located in the Graves Corral area of the southern Bighorn Mountains. The piles were created from past logging activities. Buffalo Field Office (Campbell County): Cedar Draw – Hand slash piles located about 20 miles north of Gillette in the Burnt Hollow management unit. The piles are a result from hazardous fuels reduction projects completed over the past two years. Casper Field Office (Natrona County): Muddy Mountain Forest Health – Hand slash piles located in the Muddy Mountain Environmental Education Area south of Casper. The piles were created from forest health management activities. Casper Field Office (Converse County): Esterbrook – Hand and machine slash piles located west of the community of Esterbrook. The piles were created from forest thinning activities. Newcastle Field Office (Weston County): Newcastle Fire Defense Zone – Hand and machine slash piles located northeast of the community of Newcastle. The piles were created from fuel load reduction operations. All prescribed burn projects will be conducted in accordance with approved burn plans when favorable weather and fuel conditions permit.
