BLM Announces Fireworks Areas

In anticipation of the upcoming Independence Day holiday, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Worland Field Office has announced temporary, local exceptions to the fireworks ban on public lands.

While the use and discharge of fireworks on public lands is generally prohibited by fire prevention orders, the gravel pits northwest of Worland and the bentonite hills east of Basin are areas that pose a very low risk of wildland fire occurrence. In order to provide an acceptable area to discharge fireworks during the holiday, BLM has authorized fireworks use from June 29-July 8 at these two locations.

Users are reminded to properly dispose litter. Last year, large amounts of litter were left at the public fireworks areas. As a result, authorities will be monitoring the areas for litter to determine if fireworks use should be discontinued after 2007.

Maps of the fireworks areas are available at:

For questions or assistance, please contact Fire Management officer Chuck Russell at 307-347-5213, or Ranger Aaron Kania at 307-347-5170.
