Kodiak Oil & Gas Begins Drilling for Gas Well
Between Four J Rim and Horseshoe Basin
Work begins on Monday, June 11, to drill a natural gas well between Four J Rim and Horseshoe Basin. Kodiak Oil and Gas Corp.’s permit to drill was approved by the Rock Springs BLM in the fall of 2006 following a 30-day public comment period, but the company had to wait until June to start its operations. Wildlife restrictions and weather were the primary factors in the delay.
The project, located in Section 3 T12N R102W of Sweetwater County, is expected take 30-45 days to complete. Access to the well will be through the lower stretch of Pine Mountain Rd. The company will be responsible for maintaining the road in compliance with BLM road standards but no major improvements will be made other than for safety purposes.
The project site was moved four times to find the location that had the least impact to the environment or resources.
