National Historic Trails Interpretive Center Seeks Volunteers
The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center (NHTIC) is seeking new volunteers to join the Trail Guides Volunteer Program. Volunteers are needed to assist staff on weekends during the summer months and to serve as tour guides for groups.
Weekend volunteers will serve as exhibit docents and also operate the river crossing experience for visitors. These volunteers can serve one day a week or once or twice a month depending upon a person’s schedule and the Trail Center’s needs.
Volunteers are also needed to serve as tour guides for the upcoming 2007/2008 school year. These docents will lead groups of school children through the facility when they visit as part of a classroom educational tour from September through June.
Orientation and training will be provided for all new volunteers.
The NHTIC not only hosts school children on classroom tours but also welcomes visitors from around the United States and throughout the world. Recent international guests include people from Iceland, Mozambique, Taiwan, Ecuador, England, Scotland, Belgium, Germany, Canada and Australia.
Anyone interested in volunteering at the NHTIC should contact Gayle Irwin, Visitor Information Assistant, at 307-261-7787.
