Christmas colt to be raffled off for LCCC
horse judging team
The Laramie County Community College horse judging team will be raffling off “Mickey,” a 2-year-old buckskin gelding, in the first annual “Christmas Colt” fundraising event. One lucky community member will be able to win their own gentled buckskin wild horse gelding, which has been provided to the judging team by the Bureau of Land Management’s Adopt-a-horse Program.
The LCCC horse judging team is an academic based club that learns to apply ideal breed standards in evaluating horses, and learns the skills necessary to make sound decisions and defend their opinions. They compete at the national level against other prestigious 2 and 4-year institutions. The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to cover the team’s travel expenses and team jackets.
People hoping to win the 2-year old colt must be able to qualify as a BLM adopter. To be eligible to adopt a wild horse or burro, you must be at least 18 years of age, though parents or guardians may adopt a wild horse or burro and allow younger family members to care for the animal; have no prior conviction for inhumane treatment of animals or for violations of the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act; and demonstrate that you have adequate feed, water, and required facilities to provide humane care for the number of animals requested. Specific adoption and facility requirements can be reviewed at www.wy.blm.gov/wildhorses.
The raffle will take place on at 3 p.m. on Dec. 8 at the LCCC Indoor Arena. The winner does not need to be present in order to win.
Raffle ticket prices are as follows: 1 ticket - $3, 2 tickets - $5, 5 tickets - $10.
